The Roy Jinks SWHF historical letter explains that this gun was one of a batch of 803 produced with special grips and finish in 1984 to evaluate as possible standard production features, although they were not adopted.   It goes on to say "This unique handgun is of interest to collectors as it incorporates a special grip produced to FBI specifications as well as a dull finish, which has been used on the government XM9 sample, as well as the style of finish specified by other government agencies."

This exact gun was part of a 50 gun rush shipment shipped to SER Distributors in Miami on 2/22/1985.
